Charlotte Gray is one of Canada's best-known writers and biographers, and the award-winning author of several bestsellers, including Reluctant Genius: The Passions and Inventions of Alexander Graham Bell, Mrs. King: The Life and Times of Isabel Mackenzie King, and Sisters in the Wilderness: The Lives of Susanna Moodie and Catharine Parr Traill. An adjunct research professor in the department of history at Carleton University, Gray sits on the boards of both the Dominion Institute and the Canadian National History Society. Charlotte and her husband live in Ottawa.

"Extraordinary Canadians reminds us that, although the creation of Canada is a collective effort, certain individuals always stand out from the crowd. Yet Canadians have shied away from biography as a literary art. Too often, we've preferred to retreat into modesty rather than celebrate the leaders who, in a range of different fields, have epitomized our values or shaped our self-image. It is wonderful to be part of a project that brings new life, and new lives, to the exploration of the past."
